Who we are

This website, appalachianwasabi.com, is run by Appalachian Wasabi, a wasabi grower in Appalachia. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Appalachian Wasabi.

What we collect

• Orders. When you buy from our shop, you check out on a page hosted by Square. Square collects your name, email, shipping and billing addresses, and payment details. We receive the order information we need to fill your order. We never see or store your full card number.
• Messages. If you use the contact form on our Collaboration page, we receive the name, email address, organization and order number (if you give them), type of inquiry and message you submit. The form is processed by a form service, FormSubmit, which delivers your message to our email inbox.
• Season notices. If you sign up for season notices, we receive your email address and the items you want to hear about, through the same form service. We use it only to tell you when fresh rhizomes and plant starts are available. Ask us any time and we will remove you.
• Technical information. Like most websites, the services that deliver this site can see basic technical information such as your IP address, browser and the pages you request. Our site is hosted on GitHub Pages, and our fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so those companies receive this information when your browser loads the page.

We do not run advertising or analytics tools on this site, and we do not set tracking cookies ourselves. Services we link to, such as Square’s checkout, may use their own cookies.

Social media. Our site links to our profiles on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and LinkedIn. We do not embed their feeds, buttons or tracking pixels, so those companies learn nothing from your visit here unless you click through. Once you are on their sites, their own privacy policies apply.

How we use it

• To process, pack, ship and support your order.
• To reply to your messages and inquiries.
• To send season notices to people who asked for them.
• To keep records, handle taxes and follow the law.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the services needed to run the store and the site:

• Square processes payments. See Square’s privacy notice.
• USPS, our shipping carrier, receives your name and address to deliver your order.
• FormSubmit delivers contact form messages and season notice sign-ups to us.
• GitHub hosts the site. See GitHub’s privacy statement.
• Google provides the fonts. See Google’s privacy policy.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep order records as long as we need them for fulfillment, taxes and accounting. We keep messages for as long as it is useful to answer you and to remember who we have talked to.

Your choices

You may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, except where we need to keep it for legal or tax reasons. Send us a message and we will respond.

Children

This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

Security

Payments are handled by Square. We take reasonable care with the information we receive, but no website or email system is completely secure.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the date below.
