Shipping
How we ship.
Fresh rhizomes and plant starts are living, perishable products, so we ship them on a set weekly schedule, packed with cold packs. Here is what to expect.
At a glance
- Fresh rhizomes and plant starts ship on Monday (Tuesday if Monday is a federal holiday). Order by Friday, 6:00 p.m. Eastern to ship the following Monday.
- Everything else ships within 2 to 3 business days.
- Fresh rhizomes and plant starts are seasonal: they ship in spring (March–May) and fall (September–November) only.
- Every order ships by USPS Priority Mail. Fresh items travel with insulated cold packs.
- Refrigerate fresh items as soon as they arrive. Our Growing Guide and Kitchen Guide cover what to do next.
Where we ship
We currently ship to addresses within the United States. If you are outside the U.S. and would like to order, send us a message and we will let you know whether we can help.
When orders ship
Orders with fresh rhizomes or plant starts ship once a week, on Monday, during our spring and fall seasons (see seasonal availability). If Monday is a federal holiday, they ship the next day, Tuesday. We ship at the start of the week so your wasabi is never stuck in a carrier’s facility over a weekend.
To ship the following Monday, we must receive your order by Friday at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time. An order placed after that cutoff will ship on the Monday of the following week. For example, an order placed Saturday morning ships the Monday after next, not the Monday right after it.
Orders without fresh rhizomes or plant starts ship within 2 to 3 business days of purchase.
If your order has both, we ship it together on the fresh-item schedule above, so that everything arrives in one package. If you would rather have the other items sooner, place a separate order for them.
Holiday breaks. We pause fresh shipments during the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Fresh orders received during the Thanksgiving break ship on the first Monday after it. Orders without fresh items may take a little longer during these weeks.
You will receive an email with tracking information when your order ships.
Seasonal availability
Fresh rhizomes and plant starts ship only in spring (March through May) and fall (September through November). Mild weather in those months spares them summer heat and winter cold in transit, and gives new plants the best chance to establish. What is available within each season depends on our harvest; the shop shows what is in stock.
The last fresh shipment of each season goes out in late May or late November; the panel above always shows the next ship date. Outside the seasons, fresh items show as out of season in the shop, and ordering reopens the week before each season’s first shipment. Orders without fresh items ship year-round.

Shipping rates
Shipping is a flat rate that is shown at checkout before you pay. Any free-shipping offer will also be shown at checkout. Your shipping charge covers the whole order, so please check the total on the checkout page before you pay.
Carrier and packaging
All orders ship by USPS Priority Mail. Orders that include fresh rhizomes or plant starts are packed with insulated cold packs to keep them cool in transit.
Priority Mail delivery times are estimates from USPS and are not guaranteed. Weather and carrier delays can happen. Because we ship fresh items early in the week, they typically arrive within a few days of shipping.
Care guides
Fresh rhizomes and plant starts should be unpacked and refrigerated as soon as they arrive. For everything that comes next, see our guides:
- Plant starts: our Growing Guide covers storing your starts, planting them within a week, and caring for them.
- Fresh rhizomes: our Kitchen Guide covers storage, grating and serving.
Please double-check your shipping address at checkout. We cannot change an address once an order has shipped, and we are not responsible for packages sent to an address entered incorrectly.
Damaged, delayed or lost packages
If your order arrives damaged or spoiled, or does not arrive, please contact us as soon as possible. Our refund policy explains what we will do, including the 48-hour window for reporting a problem after delivery.
Sales tax
Where the law requires us to collect sales tax, it is added at checkout.
